High Integrity Castings

Loukus Tech’s specialty is squeeze casting, which is a modified version of high-pressure die casting. The casting pressure is high, yet the shot speed is considerably lower to minimize turbulent flow. Through our squeeze casting process, we produce high-integrity castings for safety-critical applications. Because of the available control and high pressure, squeeze casting is the preferred method to infiltrate ceramic preforms in the process of manufacturing metal matrix composites (MMCs).

Cast Capabilities

Loukus Tech has the ability to squeeze cast aluminum and magnesium and to manufacture metal matrix composites (MMCs). LT has both vertical and horizontal squeeze casting machines. The vertical machine, which was designed and built by REL, has 1500 tons of clamp force and 1200 tons of injection/squeeze force. It is capable of casting a part that is 3 feet x 3 feet, or 1,296 in2 (0.84m2). The maximum thickness is 5 inches (12.7 cm).

In addition to our three squeeze casting presses, we have two low-pressure casting machines - an 800 kg capacity LMP and a 200 kg capacity Kurtz low-pressure casting machine with a 5’ x 6’ x 4’ mold - as well as the capability to produce custom gravity-cast parts up to 250 lbs.

Loukus Tech understands the requirements of high-integrity components and is ready to partner in vehicle lightweighting and other high-performance product development efforts. Combining Loukus Tech’s familiarity with casting equipment and its excellent reputation in machine design, LT is a great resource to design and build custom casting process equipment.
